While not a member of a colourguard group, Kelsey has become well immersed in the activity. She's quickly learning about how both challenging and rewarding both colourguard and winterguard can be.
New to the Spiritus board of directors, Kelsey brings a history of communication and social media having worked at a variety of media outlets as well as co-founding the Humanity Unscripted project in which she travelled the world with three fellow journalists, telling the stories of the people they met along the way.
In her spare time, Kelsey enjoys travel, reading and cheeseburgers.
Rory has been around marching activity his entire life. He watched his older sisters go through various marching programs in Calgary and the U.S., and would go to rehearsals just to watch. Since he was able to stand, Rory was signed up in private lessons. He received his Grade 6 royal conservatory percussion practical certificate when he was only in the sixth grade.
Rory was finally able to perform for the first time, in Euphoria Winter Drumline in 2000. Following that winter he joined The Calgary Round-Up Band for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He then joined Allegiance Elite Drum and Bugle Corps as pit section leader from 2003-2006 where he received two Member of the Year awards.
After Allegiance Elite folded, Rory joined the Calgary Stampede Showband in 2007. In 2008 he was offered a spot in The Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Santa Clara California, where he went on to win the the Drum Corps International Open Class world championships. The following year, 2009, he was awarded a silver medal.
Rory has been instructing with the Stetsons Show Band since the 2009 season. He is responsible for writing the front ensemble music, educating students in the fundamentals of percussion, and proper care and maintenance of instruments. Rory constantly strives to ensure every student in his section is always having a good time, while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and excellence.
Rory is currently the Vice President of the Spiritus Marching Arts Association and Dynamic Winterguard. Rory was the director of Vertigo Indoor Percussion in 2013 and 2014.
Rory has been working with the Stampede Showband since the 2014 season. He works full time in the hospitality industry, and is a passionate snowboarder and long-boarder.
Rochelle has been around marching activity her entire life. Growing up, Rochelle followed the performances of her older sisters in various marching programs throughout North America, often attending rehearsals just to watch.
Rochelle’s first year in colorguard was 2001 as a member of Allegiance Elite Drum and Bugle Corps. She spent four years total within the organization, becoming colourguard captain in 2003.
Next Rochelle joined the Calgary Stampede Showband in 2004. During the next three and a half years Rochelle earned colourguard captain, outstanding first year award, and a Taylor award for the most outstanding colourguard member in 2005.
In 2007 Rochelle earned a spot in The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, Santa Clara California, where she spent two years competing.
Rochelle taught the Calgary Round-Up Band from 2004-2007. She was the Colorguard Coordinator for Stetsons Showband in the 2007-2008 season and began teaching the Calgary Stampede Showband in 2007. She became the Colourguard Coordinator for the Stampede Showband in 2010 and went on to win three World Association of Marching Showbands championships during her time in the position.
Rochelle created Dynamic Winterguard under the Spiritus Marching Arts association in 2014. This has become a successful program within Alberta and abroad. Rochelle is a member of the Spiritus Board of Directors as well as a six year veteran of Escalade Winterguard where she is also on the board of directors.
Rochelle strives on developing excellence and accountability while creating a fun environment in which both youth and adults feel challenged and successful.
Rochelle works in Child and Adolescent Acute Psychiatry as a Registered Nurse at The Foothills Hospital and the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time between family and CrossFit.
Michelle Norman has a long history of participating in the colourguard world. She was a three-year member with Bishop Grandin and a five-year member of Stampede Showband before moving on to teaching.
Michelle spent three years teaching with the Stetson Showband and is currently coordinating the Stetson's colourguard as well as instructing with Stampede Showband.
Michelle is in her third year with Dynamic Winterguard and is also an eight year member of Escalade Winterguard.
Michelle works in insurance as a claims adjuster and in her free time likes to paint.
Tim started his colourguard career with the Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts in the colourguard section for three years.
He then spun four years with the Stampede Showband where would go on to teach for three years after ageing out. Tim has also taught at a few other local colourguard groups as well.
Tim lived in Santa Clara, California for two years where he marched with the Santa Clara Vanguard Winterguard.
He currently works for RANA Respiratory Care Centre as the Customer Service Coordinator, and during his free time he enjoys hot yoga and running.
One fact you might not know about Tim is that he loves Disney movies and his favourite Disney princess is Mulan.
